この度、クロックワークメモリオンがゲームシステム、デザイン、イラストなど、全てが新しくなって帰って来ました。

長い間、ガチャ、コレクションを続けてくださったユーザーの皆様には、深く感謝すると共に心よりお詫び申し上げます。
印刷して遊ぶプリントアウトカードゲームのジャンルを確立させるため、5年間に渡り出来る限りのことをしてきましたが、どうしても壁を打ち破ることができませんでした。
2017年頃から十分なサービスを配信していくことも困難となり、ユーザーの皆様には申し訳ない気持ちでいっぱいです。
しかし、こんな中でもメモリオンを遊んでくれるユーザーさん、ガチャをしてくれるユーザーさんがいらっしゃり、どうしてもこのまま終えることができませんでした。
今後について1年以上悩んだ結果、トレーディングカードゲームとしてリニューアルすることを決めました。
そして2018年11月よりクラウドファンディングを行い、多くの支援者様のお蔭でこうして再スタートを切ることができました。
サイト開設から5年、離れていったユーザーさんも沢山いらっしゃると思います。
長きに渡り色々な形に変化してきましたが、クロックワークメモリオンに一瞬でも関わった人たちは私にとっての宝です。
当サイトについてですが、来年2月を目標に現在のルールに合わせてリニューアルを行う予定です。

Super Bowl Odds 2021: Chiefs vs. Buccaneers Spread, Over/Under Betting Guide.
NFL fans who enjoy storylines will be in for a treat this Sunday. When the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the field, they'll bring with them one of the most intriguing quarterback matchups in recent memory.
Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady will be playing in his 10th Super Bowl and looking for his seventh Lombardi Trophy—at 43 years old. Kansas City's young gunslinger—the 25-year-old Patrick Mahomes—will be playing in his second-consecutive Super Bowl. In only three years as a full-time starter, Mahomes has already won one Lombardi, one Super Bowl MVP and one regular-season MVP.
In many ways, this quarterback matchup is representative of the NFL's past and its future.
There's a lot more history involved in this game than at the quarterback position, though. Kansas City, which has been in the AFC title game three straight years, may be in the beginning stages of the league's next great dynasty. The Buccaneers are back in the big game for the first time since the 2002 season.
Tampa won Super Bowl XXXVII to claim the only Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
Three will be plenty of star power on the field, too—from defensive playmakers like Shaquil Barrett and Chris Jones to pass-catching phenoms like Chris Godwin and Tyreek Hill. Super Bowl LV could be a shootout, a defensive battle or anything in between—though it landing on one extreme end of the spectrum or the other feels unlikely.
How do the oddsmakers in Las Vegas see it? We'll examine the latest lines and over/unders from DraftKings Sportsbook, along with a close look at the game itself.

Injury Roundup.
Injuries can and often do impact how a game lines up with the lines and over/unders. Therefore, it's worth diving into the final injury report for Super Bowl LV.
The good news is that not many players from the playoff roster have officially been ruled out. The only players officially out are Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay and left tackle Eric Fisher. Of course, the Fisher injury could be huge, as right tackle Mitchell Schwartz has been out since Week 6.
This means that the Chiefs will be short-handed trying to slow the Buccaneers pass rush and to protect Mahomes. With players like Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul on Tampa's defensive front, Mahomes may be forced to buy a lot of time in the pocket himself.
Kansas City wideout Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable, as are Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown and tight end Cameron Brate.
Breakdown.
This game may be decided by Tampa's ability to pressure Mahomes. If the Buccaneers can get to Mahomes as they did Aaron Rodgers in the NFC title game—he was sacked five times—Tampa could quickly shift the momentum of this game. Of course, the pass rush is a two-way street, and Brady will have to deal with the likes of Chris Jones when he's on the field.
When the Chiefs and Bucs faced off in the regular season, Brady was only sacked once, but he was also forced into two interceptions. Kansas City won that game 27-24. It's worth noting, though, that the Chiefs got off to a hot start in that game before surviving with a three-point win.
The Buccaneers may get off to a slow start here, as is typical for Brady. In nine previous Super Bowl appearances, Brady's teams have scored a total of three points in the first quarter.
"Hard to explain why or why not that hasn't happened," Brady said, per Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. "I'm sure they're all a lot of individual things, why that's happened or not."
Expect Brady to put a few more points on the board in this one, though, and to help the score creep past the over.
While this may not be a full-on shootout, it's probably not going to be a defensive struggle, either. There will be too much offensive talent on the field—Hill, Travis Kelce, Chris Godwin, Evans, Watkins and Brown are just a few of the notable names—for either of these defenses to completely shut down the opposition. However, a mistake on which a defense can capitalize could decide it.
The mistake-battle seems to favor Mahomes there, as he's thrown just six picks all season, while Brady has thrown 15—postseason included.
While the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills will tell you that kicking field goals alone isn't enough to best either of these teams, a field goal could be the difference here.

Super Bowl LV is now only a week away. In exactly seven days, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs will do battle for the biggest prize in football, the Lombardi Trophy.
This will be a historic Super Bowl for multiple reasons. Firstly, it will mark the first time in the game's history that a team hosts the Super Bowl in its home stadium. Secondly, it will mark the 10th Super Bowl appearance for Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
No other quarterback has started more than five Super Bowls. Brady can also become the first quarterback to win Super Bowls in two different conferences. Peyton Manning is currently the only quarterback to start and win Super Bowls with two different teams.
Of course, the Kansas City Chiefs will have a little something to say about Brady winning anything next Sunday. They have their own premier quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, who has a league MVP and a Super Bowl MVP on his three-year resume as a full-time starter.
Which quarterback and team does Las Vegas favor in this matchup? Let's take a look at the latest odds and over/under from DraftKings Sportsbook.

While the Chiefs were three-point favorites for much of the past week, the line at the time of writing has widened ever so slightly.
Three points was a fine starting point, as this was the margin of Kansas City's 27-24 regular-season victory over Tampa. It's not a shock to learn that the money has pushed the line toward Kansas City, as the Chiefs have only lost one game with Mahomes as the starter this season.
However, Mahomes could have his hands full with Shaquil Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul and the rest of the Tampa pass rush. Starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz has been out since Week 6 with a back injury, and starting left tackle Eric Fisher was lost for the year to a torn Achilles in the AFC title game.
"That loss of Fisher is, I think a really, really big deal, this time of year," former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer said, per Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star .
It won't help that the Buccaneers have a fierce pass rush without the need to blitz. Mahomes faced a similarly strong front against the Miami Dolphins, and he threw three of his six 2020 interceptions in that game.
Tampa also boasts the league's best run defense—in both yards and yards-per-attempt allowed—which will likely put pressure on Mahomes to carry the offense.
Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise if the Buccaneers defense is able to keep this one within a field goal.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that a close game will favor Tampa Bay. Brady and the Buccaneers offense will have to avoid their own mistakes to come out on top—and Brady is coming off a three-interception game against the Green Bay Packers.
Kansas City has its own capable pass rush, led by Chris Jones and Frank Clark. They can make it necessary for Tampa to lean more heavily on Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones II and the ground game.
Look for the Buccaneers to try shortening the game and controlling the tempo with the run, while the Chiefs attack Tampa's 21st-ranked pass defense with weapons like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. This should lead to a fair amount of scoring, even with plenty of defensive talent on the field.
There's a good chance that this game hits the over and perhaps an even better chance that the team holding the ball last will walk away with the Lombardi Trophy.

Perhaps Misha B was never going to win – she ended up performing in the same year as Little Mix, who were the year’s standout act by a mile. However, her voice and stage presence marked her out as a potential star. However, she lost huge amounts of public support when the media ran with accusations of her bullying other performers, and from that point on, bettors were only going to get a return if they backed her on X Factor odds for elimination. The scandal blew over with no evidence ever being presented, but Misha was eliminated a week before the final nonetheless.
JUDGE THE SHELF-LIFE OF A “JOKE” CONTESTANT.

As a result, even the X Factor favourites in 2018 and other years can never be sure of their position – in 2011, Amelia Lily was eliminated in week one, and then returned to the show to finish third.
Nothing is guaranteed. The eventual winner is not always (and perhaps rarely) actually the best performer, and given that Joe McElderry beat out Olly Murs, they’re not even guaranteed to be the commercial success of their year’s show. Don’t back away from a bet because it goes against the perceived wisdom, because this whole show regularly goes against so-called prevailing trends.

Perhaps more importantly than any of the other tips, it’s essential to remember that there is a certain element of chaos to the way X Factor goes. It’s true that male solo singers seem to do unaccountably well with the voters, and that can be of use in X Factor final betting – Ben Haenow beating Fleur East was a shock neither the bookies nor the public saw coming.

Swordplay Showdown Reverse Mode.
After beating the Volcano round, all ten levels can be played backwards.
Swordplay Duel Samurai Armour.
Beat the champion in Duel Mode and your Mii will have upgraded to Samurai Armour.
Swordplay Duel Purple Sword.
Note: You must play and beat the champion (get a skill point of about 1500 points) before doing this. At the "Select a Mii" screen before an event starts, hold while pressing to choose "OK." You can let go of when you see the black warning/info screen. This will unlock the purple sword you can use in duel.
Secret Targets.
In every area there's at least one Special Target (they are same as the items of the Speed Slice). If they are hit, they will give the player 10 points.
Beginner Area.
Stage 1: Orange Target: The Orange is located at the right of the screen, near the Cavern and the Waterfall.

Basket bike for cycling.
Once the player attains pro status in cycling, the player can hold the button while choosing the Mii to use a "basket bike." The "basket bike" either has a picture of a pizza or some flowers on it depending on the Mii's gender.
100-Pin Bowling Secret Strike.
You can toss the ball onto the blue bumper just right and make it travel all the way to the end, it will hit a switch (the red dot), trigger an explosion, and knock down all the pins. To do this, release the ball late on Manual to toss the ball into the air. Angle it towards the bumper with some spin to keep it on track.
Bowling Ball color change.
To change the blue color of the ball, hold a direction on the directional pad at the Bowling loading screen. The following directions correspond to colors:
Up - Blue Bowling Ball Down - Green Bowling Ball Left - Red Bowling Ball Right - Gold Bowling Ball You can also unlock a bowling ball covered in stars for each bowling event by attaining Pro Level (1000 points).
Power Cruising Slalom Courses.
Slalom Course Marina - Get 350-400 overall event points (or play 5 times) Slalom Course Cavern - Get 650-700 overall event points (or play 10 times) Slalom Course Shoals - Get 850-900 overall event points (or play 15 times)
Shoe Paddle for Table Tennis Match.

Swordplay Showdown Purple Sword.
his, Defeat the twentith level on swordplay showdown. Then, Just like the duel purple sword glitch, Hold the 1 Button and select ok on character select screen. Don't let go until you select level and warning screen pops up!
Color Coded Wakeboarding Obstacles.
In Wakeboarding, note the color of the left and right buoys at the beginning. The color buoy on the left will always be to the left side of the boat when you pass it and vice-versa.
Video Game Sounds.
1. At the begining of cycling when the numbers are going down, you can hear the same sound from the Mario Kart games when those numbers are going down.
2. When you fall off of a cliff in Cycling mode, you can hear the same sound from when you fall off a cliff in Mario Kart 64. This also happens in Air Sports: Island Flyover when you crash.
3. During 3-point contest (basketball), you may possible hear a "Wa-ha!" which sounds similar to the "wa- ha!" Mario says in Super Mario 64 after a Triple Jump.
4. In bowling when you zoom in you can hear the sound when you bring up the menu in Animal Crossing. (This is also in Wii Sports)
Island Flyover Flare.
To find Miguel's plane in Island Flyover, press 1 to send up a flare. He'll answer with his own, making it easier to find him. Follow him and he'll show you the way to many i Points.
Basket Bike for Cycling.
Once you've attained Pro status in the Cycling, you can hold down 1 when choosing you Mii to use a 'basket bike.' The 'basket bike' either has a picture of a pizza or some flowers on it depending on your Mii's gender.
Phases of the Moon.
The phases of the moon in Wii Sports Resort are accurate and reflect the real moon phases you can see at night. You can see the Wii Sports Resort moon during events like Island Flyover and Archery (at night).
Cycling Unlockables.
Meet the requirements below to unlock additional courses and longer races! For the longer races, you'll actually race in stages. Each day a different race will allow you to gain ground on your many opponents. On the final day you'll need to fight for first!
1-Stage Race - Over Talon Rock - Play 3 1- Stage Races 1-Stage Race - Up the Volcano - Play 5 1-Stage Races 1-Stage Race - Into Maka Wuhu - Play 7 1-Stage Races 3-Stage Race A - Play 3 1-Stage Races 3-Stage Race B - Play 3 3-Stage Races 6-Stage Race - Get about 650 event points.

Swoop down near the circle of cabins outside of the town on the south side of the island to hear the distinct strains of a Super Mario Bros. game being played. That's how we'd spend our time at a tropical island resort as well!
Bowling Ball Colors.
To change the blue color of your ball to something else, hold a direction on the directional pad at the Bowling loading screen. The following directions correspond to colors:
Down - Green Bowling Ball Left - Red Bowling Ball Right - Yellow Bowling Ball.
If you are player 2, player 3, or player 4, Hold Up to get a blue bowling ball.
Samurai Armor.
Beat the champion in Duel Mode and your Mii will have upgraded Samurai Armor.
Swordplay Duel Upgrades.
Reach a score of 1000 to unlock special Samurai armor. After you reach a score lever of 1500, you'll fight the Champion -- a special match set in the evening sunset. Defeat him or her and you'll be able to hold 1 at the Mii Select screen while choosing "OK" with A to unlock a purple sword!
Swordplay Showdown Reverse Mode.
Beat the Volcano round to unlock Reverse rounds where you can play all ten original rounds backwards.
Additional Wakeboarding Levels.
On the Wakeboarding event, get your overall event score to 400-500 to unlock Intermediate level. Expert is unlocked when you get to about 800-900.
Event Permutations.
At the "Select a Mii" screen before an event starts, hold 2 while pressing A to choose "OK." You can let go of 2 when you see the black warning / info screen. This will have the following effects on certain Events:
Airs Sports Island Flyover - Eliminate all balloons and i-Points Air SportsSkydiving - Play the intro Skydiving event Archery - Eliminate aiming circle (difficult!) BasketballPickup Game - Play at night Frisbee Golf - Eliminate information on the screen including wind direction / speed and the distance to the hole Golf - Eliminate information on the screen including wind direction / speed and the distance to the hole SwordplayDuel - Play in the evening Table Tennis Match - Play a 11-point match.

Three Holes - Special Course.
Beat every course with a total score of under par for each (-1 or lower) to unlock the mystery course called "Three Holes - Special." You can do this for both Golf and Frisbee Golf. Unlocking the course for one will not do the same for the other.
100-Pin Game Bumper Trick.
In bowling's 100-Pin Game, if you can toss the ball onto the blue bumper just right and make it travel all the way to the end, it will hit a switch and knock down all the pins. To do this, release the ball late on Manual to toss the ball into the air. Angle it towards the bumper with some spin to keep it on track.
Facing the Champions.
In some events you can face an island champion for a stamp. Once you turn Pro in many of the sports, at an event score of 1000, you won't face champions right away. For most of the sports you must get your level to right around 1500 to face the champions and thus get your stamps.
Island Flyover i Symbol Features.
Collecting certain amounts of i Symbols in Free Flight mode unlocks the following features. For the full list of i Symbol locations, be sure to check out our guide (see above)!
10 - You can now pop balloons! (Adds balloons to shoot with your gun) 20 - You can now fly in the evening! 30 - You can now use the double blaster! 40 - You can now fly at night! 50 - The islands are now lit up at night! (By fireworks) 60 - You can now fly a two-seater plane! 70 - The Whale Shark has a new design! (Your Mii will be pictured on the side) 80 - A vacation house has been built for you! (Look on the private island for an 81st point of interest!

However if I were a GM and was building a team and could have either of these QBs I would not hesitate to pick Josh Allen to build my team around. FanDuel CEO Matt King joked with MarketWatch that the Super Bowl should fall into the “essential travel” recommendations from the CDC.
King, the head of the New York-based bookmaker and daily fantasy sports site since 2017, is an annual attendee of the big game, but this year decided it “didn’t make sense” to go. Like millions of other NFL fans, King will be watching the Chiefs take on the Bucs on TV.
In an interview with MarketWatch, King weighed in on how the pandemic is accelerating sports betting, FanDuel’s interest in becoming a public company, and if legal sports betting in New York state is a “game-changer.”
MarketWatch: Is FanDuel doing any physical events for the Super Bowl this year?
King: It’s pretty limited this year. Last year we did a bunch of events with players and some events with a few of our partners that are down there. A series of smaller things.
MarketWatch: Do you anticipate more money being wagered on the Super Bowl this year than in past years?
King: Yeah there’s going to be a lot more. Obviously we are in a lot more states, that’s the tailwind, but even the states that we’ve been operating in the last two years are up significantly this year.
MarketWatch: What are your total bet projections for the game?
King: Our business is up dramatically. I’m not sure we are disclosing our specific projections but it’ll be by far the biggest game on record for us. Many orders of magnitude up year-over-year. The statistic I can give you because it’s on the tip of my tongue is that in the first 28 days of 2021, we’ve done $1 billion in handle on the sportsbook. We didn’t hit $1 billion in handle in 2020 until Q4.
MarketWatch: Any particular growth areas in your business that you’re seeing? Something like live-betting for example?
King: The live-betting has been pretty popular since day one. I would say the big story this year is going to be our same-game parlay product. This is where you can bet on multiple things happening in the same game and we are really the only ones in the market that offers it. The Super Bowl is perfect for same-game parlay betting. It allows people to say “here are the three guys who I think are going to score a touchdown.” The customer acceptance of the product so far this year has been off the charts.
MarketWatch: Florida, the state where the Super Bowl is, was close to legalizing sports betting in 2020, but it never happened. How closely are you watching new states attempting to legalize gambling?
King: Our head lawyer once gave me a good piece of advice which was “the chances of passing any law is 50/50 until it actually passes.” It’s either going to pass or it’s not and I’ve taken that to heart. The way we look at the world is we think about the total number of states that are considering sportsbetting and we assume that some percentage of those are going to pass. It’s just hard to predict which ones are going to get it over the goal line. We are confident that you’re going to see a number of states pass it this year, we just don’t know which ones.
MarketWatch: The four states with the highest populations: California, Texas, New York and Florida have not legalized sports betting yet, do you see those states as game-changers for your business?
King: We certainly see every new state as a market opportunity, and obviously the bigger the state the bigger the market opportunity. But, the real change is what is already happening. Sportsbetting is becoming part of the narrative around sports. It’s embedded in how we talk about sports and even in those big states it’s a bit of a when — not if — question because people are understanding the size of scope of the illegal market and the fact that it’s just common sense legislation to try and put it out of business. I don’t necessarily view them as game-changers because the reality is we are already in the middle of the game. Certainly a big state will accelerate things.

The world’s biggest known accumulator win came in March 2011 in the UK, when plumbing engineer Steve Whiteley managed to win a staggering £1.45 million from a noble £2 bet. Whiteley, from Tawton in Devon, selected six winners on the Exeter Tote Jackpot from a choice of horse race meets across the UK and Ireland. Even though more than a year has passed since the Legislature and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer legalized internet gambling and sports wagering in December 2019, regulators have needed time to create rules and ways to monitor and license the new virtual platforms.
Some lawmakers initially thought that online betting could go live as early as last March, but that didn't happen. In-person sports betting did begin in Michigan just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but quickly went dark.

The casinos and their sports betting lounges shut down for 4ВЅ months because of the pandemic, reopened at reduced capacity, then closed again from Nov. 18 through Dec. 22, resulting in big drops in gambling tax revenues for the state and the city of Detroit. The start of legalized online gambling could help to make up for the continued tax losses.
Richard Kalm, executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, said Tuesday morning during the board's monthly meeting that he expects to announce the start of internet gaming and sports betting within days.
Only existing licensed casinos — the 24 tribal casinos and three Detroit casinos within Michigan — are allowed by law to offer gambling and sports betting over the internet. They can connect with users through popular betting platforms such as FanDuel. The minimum age for online gambling and sports betting is 21.

"I'm cautiously optimistic we’re going to have something either this week or the very first part of next week to relay to the public," Kalm said. “I know it seems slow to the public, but from our perspective, the regulatory perspective, we just cannot launch new types of gaming until we have rules in place to protect the integrity of that gaming."
Some online platforms, such as FanDuel, have been advertising for weeks in anticipation of the approvals.
Kalm said that once the board approves the first operation licenses, it may still take a few days for the operators to go live.
"They already have apps online that you can download," Kalm said. "They won’t accept a wager, (so) you can play on those apps but you can’t bet."
The tax rate and the tribal payment rate for internet sports betting is 8.4%.
The tax and payment rates paid by the casinos for general internet gambling — not including sports — will range from about 20% to 28%, based on adjusted gross receipts.
The gaming control board has published a detailed Q+A for consumers about internet gambling and sports betting that is available on their website.
Kalm said that pooled parimutuel online gambling, in which player pools extend across states, is now legally allowed but won't officially begin in Michigan until the state has reached interstate agreements.
“I don’t expect that to be launched anytime soon. In fact, maybe the end of 2021," he said.
The three Detroit casinos reported about $639 million in aggregate revenue for 2020, down a whopping 56% from 2019.
Different types of gambling, media converging for growth.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The many different types of gambling are quickly coming together with each other and with media outlets — and Wall Street is taking notice.
Casino gambling, internet gambling, sports betting and daily fantasy sports are no longer separate silos with unique audiences: Gambling companies are increasingly combining them and partnering with media companies to expand the reach of gambling.
This expansion is leading Wall Street analysts to predict fast-growing revenue in the U.S. over the next five to 10 years. Morgan Stanley sees a $15 billion sports betting and internet gambling market by 2025, and Macquarie Research says that same market could be $30 billion by 2030.
“The once disparate categories of online gaming, media and sports are joining teams to create powerful partnerships that we believe will grow viewership, increase overall fan engagement, and drive significantly higher market values for all those connected,” Macquarie wrote in a report issued Tuesday.

It cited numerous examples of deals between sports betting and media companies last year, including Bally’s and Sinclair Broadcasting; Flutter Entertainment and FOX; PointsBet and NBC; William Hill and CBS; DraftKings and Caesars Entertainment partnering with ESPN; Penn National and Barstool Sports; BetMGM and Yahoo; and Turner Sports’ deals with FanDuel and DraftKings.
David Schwartz, a gambling historian with the University of Nevada Las Vegas, said combinations like these “seem to be the wave of the future.”
“With geographic expansion nearly complete in the U.S. — Texas is the biggest unserved market still out there — casino companies are looking to grow their revenues by expanding into new forms of gambling, (and) online and sports betting are the most prominent,” he said. “Even daily fantasy sports is seen as a viable route, as seen by recent moves by Bally’s and Caesars. The media partners get more content and more eyes on their product.”
Bill Miller, president of the American Gaming Association, the gambling industry’s national trade association, said deals like these are “a logical extension” of the industry’s desire to keep pace with customer expectations.
“Responsibly growing these verticals will be essential to the industry’s continued success,” he said.
In a report last week, Morgan Stanley forecast a $15 billion market for sports betting and internet gambling by 2025, an increase of 27% over current levels. As much as $10 billion of that is likely to come from sports betting, the company said.
Most analysts expect at least half the country will have legal sports betting by the end of 2021, with continued expansion after that.

It was probably inevitable that legal sports betting would come to New York state. But the manner in which Gov. Cuomo is proposing to adopt it hurts consumers by limiting betting sites and further weds the state’s budget health to gambling — which disproportionately lures and effectively taxes the poor and undermines the work ethic.
Online sports betting, legalized by the Supreme Court in 2017, is here to stay. National Football League broadcasts highlight it; commercial breaks include DraftKings ads as much as Clydesdales. But legalizing the practice doesn’t mean state governments should control it.
That’s Cuomo’s plan: using the state lottery commission to license specific gambling sites that would agree to share the most revenue with the state. An open market, such as one linked to casinos, is anathema for the governor. Says Cuomo: “I’m not here to make casinos a lot of money. I’m here to raise funds for the state.”
State budget director Robert Mujica doubles down on the point, projecting $500 million that “would go to the state budget. Otherwise, for the bettors, it’s seamless and it’s exactly the same. The only difference is the state gets the money versus others.”
Of course, it isn’t the same for the gamblers. There are at least 10 major online sports-betting services. New York would limit options — and have every reason to license those offering the best odds for the state, not the bettor.
That fails what former New York Deputy Mayor Steve Goldsmith likes to call the “yellow pages test”: When one can find plenty of private providers in the phone books, there is no reason for government to supply the service itself or to limit the number who may. Indeed, by Cuomo’s logic, the state could limit the number of entrants in any industry — and require the anointed to pony up money to the state or be barred from New York.
That’s called corporatism — and it has stifled economies all over the world.
But the implications of Cuomo’s plan get worse. The sports-betting regime would amplify the sins of the state lottery, which it would emulate. By relying on lottery revenues to balance the budget, the state lottery commission must constantly lure the desperate to play a game in which the odds are stacked against them. They do so through the nation’s largest lottery ad budget, constantly painting an unrealizable picture of leisure.
“The most common form of lottery advertisement encourages вЂmagical thinking’ by highlighting potentially life-changing effects of winning the lottery,” writes Andrew Clott, a Chicago attorney who has served as managing editor of the Loyola University Chicago Consumer Law Journal. “Typical advertisements focus on hard-working, blue-collar individuals who took a chance on buying a ticket and won big.”

Watching last weekend’s NFL conference championship games and other sporting events was a more enthralling experience than usual for Jack Abate, of Royal Oak.
Abate, 31, was one of thousands of Michiganders to take advantage of the highly anticipated launch of online gaming and sports betting in the state. At noon Friday, 10 Michigan casinos and their platform providers went live, offering either online sports betting, online gaming, or both.
By all accounts, the first few days were a huge success.
“There were no real reports of any outages -- maybe some lag here and there -- but nothing overly out of the norm in that regard. And also you had a great weekend for an opening. You had the conference championship games and you had the added bonus of a high-profile UFC fight (Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor). So all in all, with the exception of maybe starting on Super Bowl Friday or the first round of the NCAA Tournament, you’re not going to get a much better opening slot.”
Michigan Gaming Control Board executive director Richard Kalm said revenue and wagering numbers from the opening weekend are not yet available, but there was a high level of activity.
Michigan and Virginia both launched online gambling late last week and combined for 7.5 million online gambling transactions across 400,000 accounts, according to data from GeoComply, which provides geolocation tracking services for the internet gaming industry.
Michigan and Virginia accounted for 25 percent of the overall volume last weekend across the U.S. market, which encompasses 17 states with legal online betting.
With Virginia launching just two operators, Altruda estimated two-thirds of the weekend’s new accounts and transactions were from Michigan.
Abate was one of many to partake in the jam-packed sports weekend. He said he signed up with two operators and placed about 10 or 12 bets, wagering on the moneyline and points total for the football games while focusing on props and various boost bets on basketball and hockey games.
“It kind of gives you a little bit more incentive to tune into a game that you may not have paid attention otherwise,” Abate said. “I’m not a big fancy guy for basketball, hockey or baseball, but now with online sports betting, it makes it a little bit more enjoyable to maybe turn on a game when any of my teams aren’t playing and sit down and watch maybe root for an over/under, a prop bet or something like that.
“Moving forward, I think people are gonna tune in to maybe an offseason sport that they may not be into as much now they can put some money on the line, have a little bit more skin in the game.”
Mike Raffensperger, chief marketing officer of FanDuel, which operates an online sportsbook and casino in nine other states, said he is encouraged by the company’s start in Michigan.
“Honestly, it was a kick-(butt) weekend,” Raffensperger told MLive. “I think our projections have proven right. Michigan has launched with incredible fanfare. I think we have exceeded our expectations in terms of consumer appetite for both our sports betting and our online casino product.”
Raffensperger declined to share specific numbers but said Michigan was “one of if not our most successful state launch.”
Penn National Gaming, Inc. which has partnered with Barstool Sportsbook, said on Twitter that it received more than $2 million in first-time deposits from players over the weekend.
Meanwhile, BetMGM reported that it had more than 200,000 successful logins by customers and more than 2 million casino spins in the first seven hours of going live.
“BetMGM’s launch in Michigan has been our strongest launch yet, by some margin,” BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said in a statement. “The strength of demand has been impressive in both sports and gaming.”
Some of the most popular promotions were near-lock bets some operators were offering. For example, DraftKings offered a prop bet where consumers could double their money (up to a certain amount) if the Pistons made a single 3-pointer in one of their recent games.
FanDuel paid more than $1.7 million to Michigan customers on odds boost wins over the weekend, such as doubling the consumers’ money if the Pistons scored more than 10 points in the first quarter.
“They made it really fun and easy, whether it was your first time gambling or whether you’re a seasoned guy at sportsbook,” Abate said. “With tailoring things specific to Michigan, like Pistons prop bets or Red Wings, Michigan basketball and all that, I enjoyed that. The boosts made it fun.”
The online sports betting rate in Michigan is 8.4% after winnings are paid out, one of the lowest among states with legal sports betting. The tax and payment rate for internet gaming ranges from about 20% to 28%, depending on how much money a casino generates from online gambling.
Because of the competitive tax rates in the state, operators are enticed by the market. Kalm said five more operators are expected to receive MGCB approval shortly, giving consumers more options.
Overall, Altruda believes Michigan will be a top-five market in the country, along with New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Nevada. He said he expects Michigan to reach a monthly handle of about $500 million, but noted that could vary based on different sports seasons.
Online gaming has the potential to bring in tens of thousands of dollars in tax revenue for the state, but Kalm said more time is needed to get an accurate projection.
“You’re going to need a longer picture at this,” he told MLive. “It’s a few weeks before the Super Bowl. It was a big betting weekend for the football playoffs, March Madness is coming, so there’s a lot of activity going on. You really have to look at this on a quarterly basis, spread it out a little bit more to see where Michigan is going to be and how they are going to compare to other states and what the actual revenue numbers are. And we don’t have all our operators up yet.”
Regardless, launching before the Super Bowl was paramount.
“It’s huge in the sense that you’re getting in the largest single betting sports event of the year,” Altruda said. “You’re getting attention, you’re attracting eyeballs, you’re going to get the normal sports bettors, but you’re also going to get the average sports bettors. The ability to attract the average bettor, who may only place one or two wagers at the same time, is now a registered user that you can reach out to and still draw from as a potential base in addition to the sports fans who are going to make multiple bets daily, monthly.”

Bally’s buys sports betting tech company, closes AC purchase.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Bally’s Corp. has purchased a sports betting technology company for $125 million and has finalized the purchase of a casino in Atlantic City.
The transactions, both announced Wednesday night, give the Rhode Island company formerly known as Twin River Worldwide Holdings a solid place in the sports betting and physical casino markets as it rapidly expands across the U.S.
Bally’s bought Bet.Works, a sports betting platform provider to operators in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana and Colorado.
“This is the next step in our company’s evolution,” said Soo Kim, chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. “By combining our expanding national footprint of casinos, the recently acquired Bally’s brand, and Bet.Works’ proprietary technology stack, we have evolved in just a few short years from a regional casino operator into the first U.S. gaming company committed to serving our customers with an omni-channel approach, combining the best of our physical properties with a superior online experience.”
Over the past two years, Bally’s has been on a buying spree with the goal of transforming from a small regional casino company to a national player in the gambling industry. It will have 14 casinos in 10 states once all pending transactions are completed.
The company also recently bought the Bally’s brand and renamed itself.
It finalized its purchase of Bally’s casino in Atlantic City from Caesars Entertainment and a related entity, VICI Properties, for $25 million.
In a research note issued shortly before the latest transactions were announced, the Macquarie Group said sports betting and internet gambling will be key strengths for Bally’s.
“A two-property company less than 5 years ago, the $900 million market cap Bally’s Corp. has completely transformed the portfolio to 14 assets through $950 million of spending in the last two years,” the firm wrote. “We believe online gaming is the hidden treasure of the company.”

Indiana University professor Murray Sperber, who has written several books on the demise of college athletics, said the University's reputation would be seriously harmed if the allegations made in the indictment of Martin were proven to be true. His involvement with the basketball programs at Texas A&M University and Syracuse University ended with both schools being penalized by the NCAA in the early 1990s (Gopal 2002).
